In 2004, the Belgian preparer Future World, already renowned for its impressive track record in rallying, caused a stir by unveiling the first prototype of a Porsche 996 GT3 specially developed for… road competitions!
This was a major event: the Antwerp-based team was officially supported by the Porsche factory, something that had not happened in rally competition since the legendary 911 SC RS Group B cars of 1984.
Twenty years later, the objective was to produce ten units intended for a one-make trophy, named the “Road Challenge”, which was to be integrated into the Belgian Rally Championship.
Porsche therefore supplied the last ten chassis of the 996 GT3 RS, numbered from 091 to 100. These cars left the production line halfway through assembly, already fitted with roll cages, before being delivered to Future World for final assembly and preparation.
Although the “Road Challenge” series was ultimately never launched, all ten cars found buyers, with some starting their competition careers after being offered for rental directly by Future World.
This is precisely the case for the chassis presented here.
At the end of 2007, Henri Schmelcher, already the owner of a first Porsche 996 GT3 RC (chassis #06), also acquired chassis #02, which he had completely repainted in red. Between 2008 and 2012, the Tienen-based driver alternated between the two cars for rally events in Belgium.
After selling chassis #06 in 2012, he continued competing exclusively with chassis #02 for three additional seasons, until its final appearance at the 2015 Rallye de ...
Hannut.
Shortly thereafter, the car was sold to the Netherlands, where Erik Kouwenhoven became its new owner. Aside from a few track days, he used it very little before eventually selling it to its current owner, Spentek Company.
Fully overhauled after its final competitive outing, it was then sold at the end of 1989 to its current owner, who kept it carefully preserved to this day. Now requiring restoration, this piece of motorsport history is offered in original condition with a running engine.
